Ayurvedic Head Massage

Hair oiling is a daily ritual during the Tantra
Teacher Training. We begin the day with Agni Homa, then a Para-Tan healing
session followed with oiling of the hair, or head massage. The daily practices
serves as a bonding process, where by one experiences the spirit of communal
living
The head is the center of the whole nervous system
and it is the first organ which crystallizes in from in the process if
development of the fetus.
This part of is called the Brahmand in Yogic
language and is the tenth gate. The body has ten gates from which prana leaves.
The gates are anus, genitals, mouth, two nostrils, two eyes, two ears, Brahmand
(the top of the cranium, about eight fingers width from the eyebrows)
Oil applied to the head is absorbed into the roots
of the hair, which, in turn, are connected with nerve fibres leading directly to
the brain.
Massage of the forehead, or application of paste
such as sandalwood paste, or the application of cream from milk calms the system
an creates good feeling in the brain, making one feel high.
Massage of the temple improves eyesight and
creates a centered state of awareness.
Massage of the eyebrows relaxes the whole body and
is especially beneficial for the eye and the nervous system.
Head massage in particular increases the supply of
fresh oxygen and glucose to the brain, along with the circulation of the life
giving sap of cerebra-spinal fluid.
Head massage will improve all aspect of one's life
when included into one daily schedule.
